ISO 9001: 2000 How the changes might affect you. |
1.
Upgrade their systems to the new standard and request to be audited against it
The
smoothest way to upgrade certification is during a normal surveillance visit
or a triennial re-assessment (which can be brought forward if required.)
Companies adopting this approach will need to telephone us to discuss the best
way forward, prior to a visit from our auditor(s).
2.
Continue having their surveillance visits against the old
standard (ISO 9001/2: 1994)
If they choose this, we will carry out
surveillance visits as normal. We
will, however, raise opportunities for
improvement based on the new standard.
This should help identify some of the things they need to do.
It is very important to realise
though, that the DTI has set an absolute expiry date of 15th December 2003 for
all
certificates against the old standard.
To maintain your registration beyond 15th December 2003, you will need
to
change your systems to reflect the requirements of the new standard. If
you defer your upgrade audit until your
final surveillance visit in 2003, we will need to undertake the preparatory
work in our office. You will need to
send your revised quality manual and procedures to us for review for which there
will be a nominal charge (currently £90).
When companies have been successfully audited against the new standard, they will be issued with a new certificate.
1.
Request to be audited against the new
standard.
Audits
will carried out ‘as normal’, but will be against the new
standard, rather than the old.
2.
Request to be audited against the old
standard.
We will continue to audit as we did
before the new standard was released.
However, all certificates issued will
expire on 15th December 2003. To
add value to the audit, we will raise opportunities for improvement against
the new standard.
As always, if you have any questions, please get in touch.
