Here are some other resources you may find useful:
- The Institute of Quality Assurance, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Association of British Certification bodies have all got together and produced some very useful information for organisations looking to implement ISO 9001. It can be viewed at www.abcb.demon.co.uk/iso9k2kworkbook.html. It covers many aspects of working towards ISO 9001 and is definitely worth a read.
- The Institute of Quality Assurance also operates a ‘Quality Information Centre’ (telephone 020 7245 6669, fax 020 7245 6755). Better still, look at its website, www.iqa.org. Go to the ‘information centre’. From there, select ‘resources’. The International Standards Organisation website at www.iso.ch also has information about ISO 9001. Click on the site map and follow the ISO 9000 links.
- The DTI has an excellent free document called ‘Implementing BS EN ISO 9000 - a guide for small firms’. It contains lots of useful information for any size of organisation. Sadly it is now out of print as it was based on the previous version of ISO 9001. However, you can still download it from our website. Click here to download the document in pdf format (it is quite a large file (770K) so be patient!). There is also an Addendum (17K) which you can download here. Despite being out of date, much of the information is still relevant. Presented in a compact, easy to read format it contains straightforward and helpful guidance.
- An organisation in Canada has translated ISO 9001 into plain English (in fact, American English!). Although it is their own interpretation of the standard, it certainly makes for simplified reading if you are new to the subject. Go to www.praxiom.com
