PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
ISOQAR is a Notified Body for EC type approval of Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE) according to the European Commission Directive 89/686/EEC. This approval
is needed to enable manufacturers to put CE-marks on their products. CE marking
is required to market PPE products within the Community.
ISOQAR is able to offer this service for the following products:
Protective clothing, including hoods, balaclavas, aprons, vests and related protectors
for use in situations where one or more of the following applies:
heat, flame, molten metals, welding hazards, fire lighting hazards, chemical and
biological hazards, mechanical hazards, radiation hazards (ionising and non-ionising),
sport and leisure hazards, foul weather, wind and cold hazards.
Directive 89/686/EEC defines three categories of products for Personal Protective Equipment:
- Category I - Simple Design
- Category II – Intermediate Design
- Category III - Complex Design
ISOQAR’s involvement in PPE is restricted to category III.
And within that category it is further restricted to the approval of the management
quality control system by which the PPE is manufactured under Article 11b.
ISOQAR can also audit your Quality Management System against ISO 9001,
either separately or in conjunction with regulatory certification.
The European Commission has a website for personal protective equipment.
It contains additional information that you may find useful.
